Available Lessons

My lessons fall into three categories: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.  Although the majority of my lessons are taught in a private or semi-private lay-out, each child will receive instruction in one of the following formats.

Beginners - are children that have little to no experience in the water.  These children cannot swim independently and cannot float.  This class will focus on water adjustment and safety.  Children will learn to submerge, kick correctly on top of the water, use their arms in an over-head pull motion, float independently, and learn how to react if they fall into a pool or open water.  The primary goal of these classes is water safety.

Intermediate - students have some swimming ability.  These swimmers already know how to use their arms and legs to propel themselves and can float.  This class will teach them proper arm and leg technique and how to roll to their backs to float to get a breath.  Students in this class should learn to travel the length of the pool using the swim-float-swim method.  These students will progress to learning the basics for freestyle and backstroke.

Advanced - classes will have students who are working on stroke technique.  These children should have basic knowledge of freestyle and backstroke and will be taught the legalities of these strokes to avoid disqualification in a swim meet.  They will learn breaststroke and butterfly technique and will work on strength, endurance, and speed in this class.

Private Lessons - are one-on-one 30 minute lessons that will focus specifically on the needs of each student.  Private lessons will also include water specific safety procedures: how to enter and exit the pool safely, what to do if an accident happens in the pool, how to help others that may be in trouble, or how to save themselves if they face trouble in the pool.  For older students, stroke correction, time reduction, and individual goals will be addressed.

Semi-Private Lessons - are 30 minute lessons for two children that will be personally tailored to the students in the class.  While semi-private lessons are most productive when the students are the same level, students may be mixed levels and will still progress.  The class will focus on safety and technique similar to a private lesson.

Group Lessons - consist of a group of 3 children per class.  While most area swim school group lessons will have 4 or more students per class, I have found that a maximum of 3 children is really the most effective group size.  By keeping the group size small, the children are able to have more individual attention and learn at a more reasonable rate.  These lessons are also 30 minutes in length.
